As a piano teacher, I expect my students to come prepared to each lesson by reviewing the material gone over from the previous lesson. With that being said, these are my studio policies, and how to make sure each student is prepared for every lesson!
Payments:
- Lessons are to be paid before the first lesson of each month, covering lessons for the entire month, whether that be 4 or 5 weeks within the month
- Lesson prices are firm and non negotiable
- Late payments will resolve with a five percent increase per day
- There will be no refunds for missed lessons
Make Ups and Cancellations
- If the student cannot attend the lesson, the teacher must be notified a minimum of 24 hours in advance, unless it is an emergency
- If the student is sick, please have them stay home, as I am more susceptible to getting sick if I am near someone who is ill. There will be a chance to make up the lost lesson
- If the student or teacher misses a lesson, the teacher and lesson must coordinate a day and time for a makeup lesson
- If the student is unable to attend any of the makeup dates, the payment will be included into next month’s payment (ex. if there are 4 weeks in the next month, the student/parent will only be responsible for 3 weeks)
- If the student wishes to quit lessons, the parent must notify the teacher at least two weeks before the next payment date
Student and Parent Responsibility
- Students are required to have access to a piano in order to practice throughout the week
- Students are required to purchase the books that the teacher requires for the lessons
- Students will commit to the same day and time each week for the lesson
- Students are to practice everyday. For beginners, 30 minutes per day is the requirement, which can be broken into several time frames throughout the day. The only way to successful piano education is by consistent practice.
- Students will have the opportunities to perform in recitals held throughout the year with the dates announced two months prior to the recital
- Parents are responsible for making sure the student practices at home
- Parents are responsible for providing an environment that encourages practice
- Students are expected to practice material from the lesson without moving further into the book without teacher approval
- Parents should contact the teacher if there are any misunderstandings or problems that may occur
- If a student is repeatedly unprepared for a lesson, there will be a discussion between the teacher, parent, and student either before or after the lesson. Continuous unpreparedness for lessons and failure to keep up with practice will result in suggestions for different piano teachers
